First Samuel chapter sixteen tells of David as a young man with the ability to play the harp and change King Saul's spirit. What was a raging tormented spirit became "refreshed, and was well". It is apparent that David had the ability to play for some time before he played for the king. The difference took its effect when Samuel anointed him (and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. 1 Samuel 16: 13).

My prayer is that the musical sounds produced through me are never dressed in talent alone, but are saturated with the gift and anointing from God. My desire is to see the captive soul set free and the down hearted up lifted. For me, music is a ministry, not an entertainment. I see the anointed message in song as a weapon to tear down the stronghold of the enemy, to soften the hearts of men so that the word of God will convict and bring lost souls into a full knowledge and acceptance of Jesus Christ in their life.

After writing background music for a secular group in my hometown Philadelphia, the Lord put in my path a pastor who fed me the word of God concerning Gods propose for music and how it was meant to be used for Gods glory. Most of what he said to me that day I heard so may times before, being from a Christian home and a son of a pastor. Only this time, I was hearing it from someone who had no father image over me at the time, and my rebellious son spirit was under arrest as the God sent message he spoke to me placed me in a field of conviction where I never before stood.

That day I made my commitment to Christ, and dedicated even my music to Him. That evening I was to perform at the Apollo Theater with the secular group, instead my horn and I were in church, yielding before God.

My God is so faithful. He has his way of replacing what you give up for him. When I left the secular group, He placed me with a 350-voice church choir with a band that traveled the U.S.. When the secular group was touring Europe, God opened the door for me to take the Gospel in Word and Song to West Africas towns and bush lands, even before Chiefs, Kings and Queens. To God be the Glory.

My spirit man tells me, in order for burdened souls to be truly freed and spiritual needs met in the lives I minister to, with Word and or music, the vessel (myself) must be sat aside to be used for Gods glory and His alone.

When reading about David after his anointing by the prophet Samuel, these points of interest come to mind.

  • He played for the king with Gods anointing upon his life.
  • The troubled mind of King Saul become clear enough that he could have repented of his sins and changed his ways.
  • Once the anointed David ministered to the king, he continued the task given to him by his father, which was to care for the sheep.

So then shall I. I must be about my Heavenly Fathers business, so to Jesus "I Surrender All".
